Perplexity AI Now Produces 8-Second X Videos With Simple Prompts

Prime Highlights

  • Perplexity’s AI-powered chatbot can now produce brief, sound-enabled videos on X (previously Twitter) based on user prompts.
  • The feature is amusing users worldwide but also causes controversy over the dangers of misinformation.

Key Facts

  • One can simply tag @AskPerplexity on X with any prompt and get an AI-produced 8-second video.
  • Videos contain images, voice-over narration, and background noise, produced by multimodal AI.
  • Heavy usage causes delays, and tight content filtering is implemented to prevent abuse.

Key Background

Perplexity, a new AI firm established in 2022, has become a significant player in the AI assistant market in a very short span of time. Originally distinctive for its text-based Q&A model supported by live citations, Perplexity has been constantly transforming into an actual generative AI platform. In 2025, it introduced services for image generation and WhatsApp integration, increasingly becoming a part of the consumer tech scene.

Its latest feature is a real-time video creation tool integrated into X, previously Twitter. Introduced in June 2025, it enables users to post their concepts or situations as a tweet with the mention @AskPerplexity. They get back an eight-second AI-created video. Not only are these videos visual, but they also contain dialogue and ambient noise, demonstrating the company’s foray into multimodal AI creation.

From peculiar Indian food settings such as individuals having masala dosa or pani puri to creative situations such as robots devouring samosas, users have begun to flood the platform with innovative concepts already. The bot’s response has been largely smooth, but sometimes, because of heavy usage, videos are slower to come up. Here, the bot responds cheerfully, informing users it’s preparing their requests.

Although this tool has become popular because of how entertaining and easy it is to create content, it has also raised alarm. One concern raised is that AI videos are easily manipulable to lie or to spread disinformation, particularly on a platform like X that has previously had loose content moderation. Perplexity has taken care of this by putting in robust content filters and rejecting requests involving sensitive material, particularly those that are political or about actual people.

While these measures have been taken, there are still concerns about the ethical and legal ramifications. The firm is already subject to criticism and litigation from media publishers regarding content scraping and copyright infringement. However, the tool is an advancement in the democratization of generative AI, bringing powerful content creation capabilities to ordinary users for the price of a tweet.
