Key Background

Imagine Energy India’s Dazzling Expansion
Envision Energy India, the Indian subsidiary of international wind technology company Envision Energy, is heavily investing in manufacturing capacity in the country. Already commissioning two facilities—a 3 GW blade factory in Tamil Nadu and a nacelle and hub factory in Pune—the company is now commissioning its third wind turbine blade factory in Gujarat. The new facility is to have 2 GW of manufacturing capacity in the first phase and to be expandable for the future.

Workforce Development and Manufacturing Integration
More than 6,000 people will be employed in the Gujarat factory by FY28, and another 1,000 in the Pune factory. The Pune factory capacity will be increased to 4.5 GW from 3 GW. Envision also plans to establish a gearbox factory and start producing generators in-house in a vertical integration move to cut ties with third-party suppliers.

Supporting India’s Localisation Mandates
The company’s growth is partly fuelled by the new localisation orders of India’s renewable gear. The government has directed the OEMs to localise some of the major components such as generators and gearboxes within six months of the date of the last notice. Envision has requested for one-year deferment to do the same in order to manage cost and technology modification. However, the firm has already moved its digital infrastructure and data controls to India in order to align with regulations.

‘Make in India’ Promise
A good emphasis on the local market, Envision Energy India has a ‘Make in India’ vision pledge. Exports plans for the future are in the pipeline but the firm’s prime goal is fulfilling India’s rising renewable energy need of 5.5 GW of wind capacity additions by FY26.
